  • Trading misery

    I remember very clearly my thoughts two years ago, before I've decided not to participate anymore in the dirty business of the animal food industry. At that time I didn't know anything about the nutritional value of a plant based diet, about the harm animal proteins do to human health, nor about the adverse effect of the meat industry on the enviroment. I hadn't read any books about animal rights and nor about the cruelty of food industry. But, even at that time, deep inside me, I was feeling something was wrong with the world, and that feeling was intensifying tremendously everytime I would walk into the supermarket.   • A look through someone else’s eyes

    It is hard to sympathize with others, it is hard to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes. It is easy to talk about others and decide on their destiny as long as we are not in their place. When it comes to animals, we easily ignore and justify mental and physical sufferings that we are causing them. However, let us try to get closer to the hen persons who spend their miserable lives living in cages for years so that they can get as many eggs as possible stolen from them. Let us imagine that we are the ones born in an incubator, without a mother and home of our own. Two or three days after our birth we see our brothers get crushed to death or simply thrown into garbage because they are “useless”.   • What other people said when I went vegan

    My mother said: "You will get sick again." Someone brought up the subject of pig slaughter, despite the fact we all live in an urban area and none of us has ever witnessed such an occasion. Ana raised her eyebrow - that was her way of making a point. Boris grabbed my piece of pork. Lara made the sign of the cross. My transition to a plant-based diet gave everyone such a hard time. My going vegan was tough for everyone, except for me. It was especially hard for my mother. :) Some things have a beginning, a middle, and an end; some other things have a very logical progression.
